As an apprenticeship instructor in Atlanta, Ga., I believe this wind turbine training tower is the key to ensuring our future in this technology. We are currently in the precess of building a new training facility, and I have requested that we include wind turbine and photovoltaics as part of our hands-on training at the new facility. This video has enlightened me to the possibilities of making this happen in the southeast. I am going to encourage our chapter of NECA, IBEW Local 613 officers and Atlanta Electrical JATC to make this an opportunity to keep our members the most highly trained and qualified IBEW electricians in the country. Thanks for the great report and keep up the good work.

From current U.S. proposals the Mid West is supposed to be the wind turbine capitol. In IL for our 20% renewable power we will need close to 10,000 1.5 MW Turbines, of which there is maybe 1,000.

I am a Local 134 JW (Chicago), with over 700 hours wiring wind turbines experience.

I like the IBEW/NECA wind turbine training facilities, but there is only three per the video. And Chicago has Solar photo voltaic, but no wind turbine training.

Having pre trained JW's will provide many good union jobs. It took about four days to do our first tower. Many contractors wanted non union electricians to go from wind farm to wind farm.

At our wind farm, it was the contractor's multiple projects and the superintendent's. The superintendent bragged about his star crew that did a tower in 1 1/2 days. We did a tower start to finish in under 1 day with no rework!

The superintendent also complimented our crew from the site owner's compliments. He said "they never saw a tower wired so nicely."

I did the work traveling in Local 601 where they said we would get certified on wind turbines with 1,000 on the job hours.

I hope that International IBEW will have wind turbine jobs section to favor union electricians with experience. So we can eliminate the non union competition. By our second tower our foreman said we where doing the tower in well under the billable/contract hours.

I hope that IBEW will not drag its feet on wind turbine training. Non union is only too willing to take the work. When the work is gone it is too late. Our union crew was ready to exceed the best. And we where where still finding ways to get better and faster.

Quality work done right the first time, the union way!

Wind Turbine Training
Wind Turbines are spinning from coast to coast. Green technology is here to stay. If you're thinking about installing a wind turbine and going green, well then your only option is NECA-IBEW for your install.
